We got to Sykesville, Md., on Sunday for Uncle Edmund’s viewing, and spent some time with Aunt Adele and family, including a nice dinner spread back at Adele’s house.
Monday we got up and attended the funeral. Priest did a very nice job of framing Edmund’s life of service. At the cemetery, Edmund was buried with full military honors, including an honor guard, a gun salute, and the playing of taps. Adele was given the US flag that had been draped over the coffin, and some words of gratitude form the presenting soldier. It was powerful stuff.
Glad we were there, glad that Doris was able to make it from Ohio, and glad that Cousin Mary was there for Adele.
Virginia visited in late June, with her mom and Doris, and here are photos from then.
and the priest could truly sing! bordered close to an opera voice, i thought. very moving. The power of being with all of my small family was very special and uniting.
