Virginia and I visited a friend, who is 80, with throat cancer. He had radiation earlier this year, but it didn’t work well, and it’s returned with a vengeance, spreading and challenging the docs to come up with a new plan to halt its progress.
Anyway, Virginia asked the hard question, “Could you lose your voice? Would that be scary?” And Bill looked over and said, “I could, but other people have, and have managed without being able to speak. As long as I have my eyes, and I can see my wife …”
Elba, his wife of 40-odd years, reached out and grabbed his hand.
Being hot for each other in the 8th decade, pretty inspiring.
