And Methacton is champs with a 58-57 victory.

The students were told not to storm the court. Oh well.

  • It was Seniors Night for the boys hoops team at Methacton. For us, it was a chance to celebrate Pete’s four years playing in high school, culminating in his senior year on the varsity squad.

Both grandmas made it out, as well as Sue, Chris and Justin—which was great. And our friends Steve, Linda and Drew joined us as well.

Before the game, Pete, Virginia and I walked out on the court to have our photo taken and generally mark Pete’s senior year. On the way back, I told him I was proud of him, and that he should enjoy the game.

And what a game. He started for the first time this year (all the seniors who hadn’t started previously were in the starting lineup). And he made the first basket of the game (a curling jumper from the free throw line)—and the second (a three-pointer). He played a lot of the first half, and his team had a good game and won by 18 or 19 points. I think he finished with 9 points. Best of all, he, his friends and all us had a night we’ll remember.

This is Utley, one of our two cats. She and her sister have made a habit of urinating on our furniture. If Kevin had his druthers, she’d sit on that fence till May.

  • Kevin co-chaired the Martin Luther King Day of Service at Unitarian Society of Germantown again. We had more than 300 volunteers, spread across 20-od locations, from South Philly to Norristown, performing acts of service. It was a great day, if tiring. Kelly took part, helping with a massive painting project at the CW Henry school in East Falls. Virginia had a project of her own, at Carson Valley Children’s Aid, where they cleaned up the agency library.

It was a great day, and now we all need a rest!

Pete has a conference hoem game Tuesday. Kelly got a buzz cut tyat has made him happy, and mortified his mother. He also had his cast removed today, so he’s rediscovering the joy of having two hands.

  • His team beat the only other team that had not lost a game in conference play, Pope John Paul II High School, 55-53, Thursday night at PJP. Here’s an article on it. And another

  • We took the grandmas to Longwood Gardens—meeting Virginia’s cousin Mary there—to see the Christmas exhibits. And grabbed a great lunch, too. It was cold, but fun.

  • Pete’s team played its first game of his varsity season and cruised to an easy win over Saucon Valley in the Pennridge Tournament.  They play again Saturday, at 7 pm.
