Ah, Mr. Bagel. Caught a Portland Sea Dogs game last night, as well as our first lobster of the trip!

Visited our friends Mary and Majid for dinner this weekend. They live out past Pottstown, and Majid raises Arabian horses (shown). Very beautiful. Dinner was great, too.

Amid the run of afternoon thunderstorms we had one Monday that kleft a permanent impression on us—lightning struck a tree less than 100 feet from our house, knocking loose a 15-foot piece of the tree, which went flying all about. A shard of it landed more than 100 feet away from the tree and stuck in the ground. Another, larger piece got caught up in a nearby tree. Crazy!

We caught a baroque music concert at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Phoenixville, led by our friend Pam Baxter, who plays cello (and also serves as director of religious education at a UU church near Media, Pa.). It was fun. Give a listen to this Purcell piece.

We’ve been to the DeGeorges’ lake house before, but never with Joe, Gabrielle and Trey. And just to amp up the fun, the McKeones and Harts were along as well. We had a blast! Great food, more water sports than you could recite in 30 seconds (and the joy in watching Joe set up and break down all his gear, continuously), lots of laughs and chat time, and more than a little wine.
Attached are a bunch of photos I took, some with my “real” digicam and some with my iPhone. All we can say is, same time, next year!
(And as we turn into August, this trip has us excited about our upcoming vacation to Maine.)

We picked up Kelly from Unirondack summer camp in Lowville, NY. As usual, he had a great time—even though this year he stayed for two weeks, rather than one. Also, his friend Trey was there for the second week, as well as Alex Kahn. We brought all three home today, eight hours in the car and very glad to be home, even if it’s 94 at 10:24 pm.

Photos from our last day, at Field Museum of Natural History, the night before at Wrigley, and a church near our hotel.

…. And sweaty armpits. A sweltering 3-day visit concluded for Pete and I with a last visit to the Belmont El station, the Field museum, and Soldier Field. Then it was off to Midway and a trip home via Pittsburgh.

We got in to town, rode the El, caught a glimpse of Wrigley and met Bridget Kahn for a nice dinner. All in all, a fun day. We’re beat. Tomorrow, Cubs-Marlins, after a hearty breakfast!
