Virginia and I saw the new Coen Brothers movie, No Country For Old Men, which was a) good, b) humorless and c) really violent. Here’s what our friend Dan Neman, a movie reviewer in Richmond, Va., thought of it. This guy to the right is gonna be up for some award. He was a little TOO good playing a psychopath.
I liked The Simpsons better. Next up. Atonement. How ’bout you?recent posts

I’ve started my new job, at menshealth.com. I’m liking the team, liking the job and working on getting my mind around a very different editorial challenge from Philly.com. Or is it?

The KId’s got a busy winter – with school choir, rec basketball and … wait for it … the lead in the church production of a Charlie Brown holiday pageant. Peter, meanwhile, has made the 8th grade basketball team at school, as well as the town travel team – so he’s happy. He has a lot of work to do on his grades, however. -
Amazon has this list, topped by A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini. Virginia got very weary reading this book, and very grateful that she was married to me rather than an Afghani. So I liked this book ;)
The best books I read this year were:- Jesus For the Non-Religious, John Shelby Spong
- The Long Tail, by Chris Anderson
- The River of Doubt, Teddy Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey
And more to come. What were your favorite books of the past year?

Headless snowman
Originally uploaded by LifeLikeWeedsEnjoy your holiday. In Philly, it’s the day for a big parade (see photo). We’ll be going to Md. for the day, to see Va’s family. With temps well into the 60s, it should be a great day. And we’re plannign to return home Thursday night. Not sure that’s a great plan, but it’s the plan.

I love the Coen Bros. movies and I’m looking forward to No Country for Old Men, their latest. What movies do you want to see? What have you seen lately?
Virginia and I saw Michael Clayton. It was a good movie for adults, which are few and far between. The next-best movie we’ve seen this year was The Simpsons Movie, seen in Edinborough, Scotland, on vacation (and we have to tell you, we laughed at all the parts that the Scots DIDN’T laugh at). What’s your list of the top five movies this year, not necessarily in the order from best to not-the-best? -
The Philadelphia Inquirer Building
Originally uploaded by XOZAfter 13 years, Kevin left the Inquirer Building (right) and Philly.com for a new job at menshealth.com. He’s excited to try something fresh and different. The new job is based in Emmaus, Pa., near Allentown – a very different setting from downtown Philadelphia.
The people at menshealth have been very, very positive and supportive and Kevin is very enthusiastic. He starts Dec. 3. -
